[Thinkfinger-devel] Success on Dell Precision M65, except for gnome-screensaver

Hi! Building and installing your driver was very simple, well done!

Having something in the documentation to suggest that the
pam_thinkfinger also took a 'debug' parameter would have helped from
reading source code, so I suggest the patch below. Also, the links to
the INSTALL and README files on the web page are not working.

I have noticed that gnome-screensaver doesn't work, although this
appears to be a known g-s problem. I wonder though whether the intended
approach is to have each file in /etc/pam_thinkfinger be owned by the
user rather than root.root though? Otherwise I don't see how
applications like gnome-screensaver would ever be able to work.

Thanks,
Simon

If you have troubles using the PAM module you may want to pass the 'debug'
option:

+ auth sufficient pam_thinkfinger.so debug
auth required pam_unix.so debug

With this option the PAM module will be verbose and use syslog(3) for debug

Versions of gnome-screensaver 2.16SVN or later work fine once you
patch thinkfinger with the patches found here:
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.drivers.thinkfinger/330

The patch may be out of date by now though.

I have not yet applied the patch due to the poor lack of time, sorry for
that. As there are the first steps of a redesign I will wait until I
merge the changes -- if still required -- in order to make g-s a happy
consumer of ThinkFinger.

Thanks,

Timo
