Hello!

The Debian package says:

=====
Description: library [1] for the STMicroelectronics fingerprint reader
ThinkFinger is a driver for the UPEK/STMicroelectronics fingerprint
reader. The device is usually found either as a standalone USB device,
built into USB keyboards or built into laptops (usually from Dell,
IBM/Lenovo and Toshiba).
.
libthinkfinger0 is a library to be used in order to communicate with
the fingerprint reader.

=====

Please note that we use STMicroelectronics instead of SGS Thomson
Microelectronics because of the discussion started at [2] with my
reply at [3]. Is this fair or should we used the old manufacturer
name? In that case, there's a text size problem for the short
description (it should be less than 60 columns), solved by droppin
"Microelectronics" as per [4] and [5].

Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca

Footnotes:
[1] this is substituted with "PAM module" or "utilities" when speaking
about libpam-thinkfinger or thinkfinger-tools

Hi Luca,

Sorry for the lag.

I have chosen the long term 'SGS Thmson...' as this is how the device
shows up in lsusb(8). Thus, whenever one fires up Google for that term
(s)he will likely find its way to ThinkFinger.

Actually, as far as I am informed, UPEK bought the devision from STM
which does the fingerprint stuff. Or UPEK is even a sub-company of STM?
Dunno, doesn't matter. If the device wouldn't show up with the long
term for STM I'd go for UPEK/STM.

Anyway, I think it does not hurt that the Debian description differs in
that point.

Thanks,

Timo
