Hi,
On the recent discussion to make more applications work with
ThinkFinger.
I have been busy redesigning ThinkFinger. That is, I have chosen a
different approach than the one I have implemented before.
Currently, there is one dirty little hack within ThinkFinger which I am
not proud of. Eliminating this hack causes more complexity for the PAM
module. And another hack. At least that hack is not as bad as the
current one.
One might ask: Can't we get along with out any hack? I'm sorry, but as
long as we want to allow the concurrent authentication with password and
fingerprint there's no other way. And that is actually what makes
ThinkFinger superior to The Other Solution around. With ThinkFinger
you're not lost once you burn/cut-off/do-what-ever-with your finger. As
long as you keep head to recall your password :-)
Anyway, this is just a heads-up, stay tuned for more news on that. As
I'm not yet finished with my work I can *not* answer questions like
"Will application xy work with the new ThinkFinger?".
Before anything goes into SVN this will need a lot of testing. I just
wanted to make you all aware of the work in progress.
